Pure Wensleydale Hand Dyed Combed Top - 100g (3.53 oz) Quarry

£7.50
Regular price £7.50

Simply gorgeous washed and combed top from our pedigree flock of rare breed Wensleydale sheep and hand dyed at the farm.

Why not let us send you the pure combed top fully prepared and hand dyed.  You can be sure that there is no added fibres in our wool, everything is pure with full traceability back to our farm.

Our hand dyed and hand painted combed tops are designed with a dye process that creates natural variations in the depth of colour throughout.  We recommend that dyed wools should be washed separately.

Before scouring and combing these lustrous locks are sorted by me personally and only the strongest and best of the fibre is used for our tops.  Our sorted wool is delivered to Yorkshire shortly after shearing and is processed within a couple of weeks to avoid discolouration and retain its glorious lustre.

When ordering please keep in mind that the actual colours might differ from what you see, due to the settings of my camera, and your monitor.

We are a working farm, we keep rare breed Wensleydales black and white, for wool exclusively.  We also keep smaller flocks of Bluefaced Leicesters, Lincoln Longwools and Herdwicks!

Our sheep are in prime condition, with their day to day nutrition and behaviour closely monitored to avoid any wool-breaks. As you can imagine, opting for professional shearers, weighing the sheep monthly and feeding every lamb twice daily for the first year, is an expensive task.

But put simply - happy sheep give the best fleeces and therefore the best yarn and craft supplies and cutting corners gives average ones! These values are behind everything we do at Home Farm.

And …if you’d like to know more ‘technical stuff’ then …

… our Wensleydale Top was recently tested for micron and spin fineness and we are totally delighted with our terrific results.  Micron tested at 32.6 and spin fineness 32.5.   (Average for the Wensleydale breed is 30 - 36 microns).

And finally, my website may not give you the best postage option for larger quantities.  I will always refund any postage difference or send you a pro-forma invoice in advance.

Packaging

Wherever possible we will use paper packaging

However, Europe, US, Canada and Rest of World, it is not always possible to use paper due to the soft contents of the package.  If this is the case, we use 90 micron polythene mailbags.  Recycling guide: LDPE 4 (Low density polyethylene).

Low-density polyethylene, or LDPE, is number 4-coded plastic, commonly used to manufacture shopping bags, dry cleaning bags and flexible bottles and lids.  Although not as commonly recycled as number 1 polyethylene terephthalate or number 2 high-density polyethylene, LDPE recycling is gaining traction as its post-consumer uses increase. One use is combining recycled LDPE with wood to create composite lumber suitable for light applications. All these plastics can be recycled into different products, but of the three, LDPE results in the most greenhouse gas savings when it's recycled.

But please - do not put number 4 LDPE plastic into a recycling bin unless you are sure it is accepted. Otherwise, you could contaminate an entire batch of recycled plastic.
