Wensleydale and Bluefaced Leicester

50g 4 Ply (Fingering, sports) wool , hand dyed with care

Ethically produced and home grown.   Washed, spun and finished in Yorkshire.

Beautifully lustrous, soft and strong, our Home Farm wool is a truly special yarn for knitters and crocheters who value quality and provenance.

This yarn is a carefully balanced blend of our home-grown pure Wensleydale wool and home-grown pure Bluefaced Leicester wool, combining the silky sheen, strength and drape of Wensleydale with the softness of Bluefaced Leicester.   The result is a versatile, worsted-spun yarn with excellent stitch definition and a smooth, luxurious handle.

Our wool is washed and traditionally spun in Yorkshire, with no added fibres and no longwools used as fillers - just pure, honest wool from our own flock.  It knits to a standard tension (or slightly finer) and works beautifully for a wide range of knitting and crochet projects.

Simply gorgeous wool from the Home Farm collection, rare breed sheep raised with care and respect.

Our Price Promise

Home Farm has chosen to sell online only, having withdrawn from most wool shops and craft shows.  This allows us to offer our best prices directly to you, rather than pricing for resellers or venues.

In recognition of the ongoing cost of living pressures we all face, we are committed to making high-quality, ethically produced wool available at the lowest possible price, especially when purchasing larger quantities.

Please see our separate page for full details of pricing and discounts when purchasing more than one skein.

Colours & Dye Lots

Each skein is individually hand painted, resulting in a beautiful range of soft, coastal-inspired colours. Our hand-dyed and hand-painted wools use a dye process that creates subtle, natural variations in colour depth throughout each skein. We recommend washing dyed wools separately.

While we photograph our wool as accurately as we can, please note that colours may vary slightly between screens.

ON THE ODD OCCASION MY WEBSITE MAY STRUGGLE TO GIVE YOU A PRICE  FOR SHIPPING.  THIS WILL PROBABLY BE DUE TO PACKAGE SIZE OR WEIGHT.  PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE VIA OUR CONTACT US PAGE SO THAT THE BEST SHIPPING QUOTE CAN BE INDIVIDUALLY OBTAINED.

Packaging

Wherever possible we will use paper packaging

However, Europe, US, Canada and Rest of World, it is not always possible to use paper due to the soft contents of the package.  If this is the case, we use 90 micron polythene mailbags.  Recycling guide: LDPE 4 (Low density polyethylene).

Low-density polyethylene, or LDPE, is number 4-coded plastic, commonly used to manufacture shopping bags, dry cleaning bags and flexible bottles and lids.  Although not as commonly recycled as number 1 polyethylene terephthalate or number 2 high-density polyethylene, LDPE recycling is gaining traction as its post-consumer uses increase. One use is combining recycled LDPE with wood to create composite lumber suitable for light applications. All these plastics can be recycled into different products, but of the three, LDPE results in the most greenhouse gas savings when it's recycled.

But please - do not put number 4 LDPE plastic into a recycling bin unless you are sure it is accepted. Otherwise, you could contaminate an entire batch of recycled plastic.

Shipping Information

WE SHIP EVERY DAY

UK Shipping

We offer FREE SHIPPING on all orders over £50. This will usually be Royal Mail 2nd class.   We make every effort to ship your order within 24 hours.

UK Shipping - we use Royal Mail for shipping and unfortunately in recent months the costs have increased significantly.

International Shipping

We offer free International shipping on all orders over £100.

We now use Delivered Duties Paid (DDP) shipping services, so you won’t face surprise fees after checkout. Your order will just be delivered. Customs duties (typically ~16%) are shown upfront as a separate line, ensuring full transparency. This change follows the removal of the US “de minimis” exemption for UK shipments, meaning even low-value orders may incur tariffs PLUS the additional tarriff of 10% USA duty.  These are government-imposed, not our charges. With DDP, your order arrives smoothly—no additional costs, no extra hassle.

Standard/Tracked Service: Orders will be sent via the postal system using a tracked service. Customers will receive an email confirming their order has been shipped, which will include a link to track the order. Shipping time is 5-7 working days in USA/CA.

We always try to keep our costs to a minimum.  We usually use Royal Mail Tracked, which does not include Signed.  We are given a proof of postage which includes your address details and the weight of your parcel, but you do not sign for your parcel which is the preferred way since Covid.  This service is cost effective and very reliable.  However, we cannot accept responsibility for your goods once they have left the UK with this service.

If you would prefer your order to be sent International Tracked & Signed then please message me with your order.    Using this service your order will be fully tracked with signature on delivery and the added cost for this service is low.
