Combed top - Lincoln Longwool

£15.00

Regular price £15.00

Meet something truly special: beautifully washed and combed top from our own pedigree flock of rare Lincoln Longwool sheep.

Known for producing exceptionally long, lustrous fibres, Lincoln Longwool has a rich heritage, once prized for the heavy fleeces that helped shape Britain’s textile history.  Today, it’s a vulnerable rare breed, with only a small number of flocks remaining.  By choosing this fibre, you’re not just creating something beautiful, you’re helping preserve an extraordinary breed.

Choose your fibre

We currently offer two unique options:

  • Pure Black Lincoln Longwool – though “black” is part of the name, take a look at the fleece… it’s not a true jet black, but a rich, natural dark shade full of depth and character.
  • Black & White Lincoln Longwool blend – a stunning mix created from black and white fibres. We didn’t have quite enough white fleece to process on its own, but the result is a beautifully unique colour blend we think you’ll absolutely love.

Why you’ll love it

  • 100% pure fibre – no blends, no additives
  • Fully traceable – straight from the farm to your hands
  • Washed & combed – ready for spinning or felting
  • Naturally rare fleece – no dye, no compromise
  • Strong, durable fibre (36–38 micron) – ideal for outerwear and hard-wearing projects

Each batch begins with careful hand-sorting, done personally to select only the finest, strongest locks.  After shearing, the wool is quickly sent to Yorkshire and processed within weeks to preserve its natural sheen and beautiful colour.  This is traditionally a strong carpet wool and is not really suitable for close to skin wear.

A few notes

  • This is a robust fibre with character, expect a little natural grease to release during soaking after spinning, leaving the yarn softer over time.
  • This is a coarse fibre and more suited to carpet and crafts, not particularly suitable for garments worn close to skin.
  • Due to lighting and screen differences, colours may appear slightly different on screen (especially darker fibres, which can look more grey).
  • Ordering larger quantities? If shipping seems off, don’t worry—we’ll always refund any excess or arrange the best rate for you.

If you’ve been looking for something rare, authentic, and full of story—this is it.

We believe pricing should be transparent and rewarding, the more you buy, the better the value.

Packaging

Wherever possible we will use paper packaging

However, Europe, US, Canada and Rest of World, it is not always possible to use paper due to the soft contents of the package.  If this is the case, we use 90 micron polythene mailbags.  Recycling guide: LDPE 4 (Low density polyethylene).

Low-density polyethylene, or LDPE, is number 4-coded plastic, commonly used to manufacture shopping bags, dry cleaning bags and flexible bottles and lids.  Although not as commonly recycled as number 1 polyethylene terephthalate or number 2 high-density polyethylene, LDPE recycling is gaining traction as its post-consumer uses increase. One use is combining recycled LDPE with wood to create composite lumber suitable for light applications. All these plastics can be recycled into different products, but of the three, LDPE results in the most greenhouse gas savings when it's recycled.

But please - do not put number 4 LDPE plastic into a recycling bin unless you are sure it is accepted. Otherwise, you could contaminate an entire batch of recycled plastic.

WE SHIP EVERY DAY

UK Shipping

We offer FREE SHIPPING on all orders over £50. This will usually be Royal Mail 2nd class.   We make every effort to ship your order within 24 hours.

UK Shipping - we use Royal Mail for shipping and unfortunately in recent months the costs have increased significantly.

International Shipping

We offer free International shipping on all orders over £100.

We now use Delivered Duties Paid (DDP) shipping services, so you won’t face surprise fees after checkout. Your order will just be delivered. Customs duties (typically ~16%) are shown upfront as a separate line, ensuring full transparency. This change follows the removal of the US “de minimis” exemption for UK shipments, meaning even low-value orders may incur tariffs PLUS the additional tarriff of 10% USA duty.  These are government-imposed, not our charges. With DDP, your order arrives smoothly—no additional costs, no extra hassle.

Standard/Tracked Service: Orders will be sent via the postal system using a tracked service. Customers will receive an email confirming their order has been shipped, which will include a link to track the order. Shipping time is 5-7 working days in USA/CA.

We always try to keep our costs to a minimum.  We usually use Royal Mail Tracked, which does not include Signed.  We are given a proof of postage which includes your address details and the weight of your parcel, but you do not sign for your parcel which is the preferred way since Covid.  This service is cost effective and very reliable.  However, we cannot accept responsibility for your goods once they have left the UK with this service.

If you would prefer your order to be sent International Tracked & Signed then please message me with your order.    Using this service your order will be fully tracked with signature on delivery and the added cost for this service is low.
