Ethically Produced Pure Wool

We’re delighted to offer our ethically produced pure wool, thoughtfully priced to give you exceptional value for your luxury knitting and crochet projects.  This yarn comes from the Home Farm flock of Wensleydale and Bluefaced Leicester Sheep, raised with care and respect.

About the Wool

This Bulky pure wool is a beautifully soft, lustrous blend of Wensleydale wool and our finest Bluefaced Leicester wool - often called the “cashmere” of British wool breeds.  The result is a yarn that feels indulgent in the hand while remaining wonderfully practical to work with.

Presentation

Our wool is worsted spun and supplied in skeins.  Please tick the box if you would like us to wind your skeins into yarn cakes - this is a free service.

This yarn is:

  • Silky smooth and wonderfully soft
  • Naturally lustrous
  • Ideal for cosy quick knits and statement accessories

It’s perfect for projects such as hats, scarves, cowls, sweaters, and blankets, and you may also like to explore our Home Farm kits for inspiration.

Our Bulky wool offers excellent stitch definition and a lovely drape. This versatile fibre knits to a standard tension and works beautifully with both knitting and crochet patterns designed for bulky yarns.

Natural & Undyed

This wool is undyed, simply washed and combed, and processed from a collection of Home Farm fleeces batched together.  Because of this natural process, colour may vary slightly between batches.  We strongly recommend purchasing enough wool for your entire project at the same time to ensure all skeins come from the same lot.

If you find you need additional skeins, please message us with your lot number, and we’ll do our best to match it and ensure you receive the best possible price.

Colour Disclaimer

We always aim to photograph our wool as accurately as possible. However, colours may vary slightly due to lighting conditions and individual screen settings

...........         This yarn is a revelation and I cannot stop petting it.

I'm knitting a swatch on 6mm needles and am thrilled with how it's turning out. I am not usually a lover of soft wools because I feel they tend to lack personality. Also in my experience the really soft wools seem to pill and look ratty really quickly because they don't usually possess the qualities that make a yarn hardwearing - high twist, a little bit of grit and prickle... But your buttery soft Big Wool yarn is an exception! It's got presence and woolliness yet feels silky and smooth to the touch and it looks to me as though it will wear well in my road testing.

There's less of a difference here between the airy plump yarn ball and fat bouncy stitches worked in this yarn; the hand-squish-grab really gives an instant impression of the soft and silky nature of the yarn.

ON THE ODD OCCASION MY WEBSITE MAY STRUGGLE TO GIVE YOU A PRICE  FOR SHIPPING.  THIS WILL PROBABLY BE DUE TO PACKAGE SIZE OR WEIGHT.  PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE VIA OUR CONTACT US PAGE SO THAT THE BEST SHIPPING QUOTE CAN BE INDIVIDUALLY OBTAINED.

Packaging

Wherever possible we will use paper packaging

However, Europe, US, Canada and Rest of World, it is not always possible to use paper due to the soft contents of the package.  If this is the case, we use 90 micron polythene mailbags.  Recycling guide: LDPE 4 (Low density polyethylene).

Low-density polyethylene, or LDPE, is number 4-coded plastic, commonly used to manufacture shopping bags, dry cleaning bags and flexible bottles and lids.  Although not as commonly recycled as number 1 polyethylene terephthalate or number 2 high-density polyethylene, LDPE recycling is gaining traction as its post-consumer uses increase. One use is combining recycled LDPE with wood to create composite lumber suitable for light applications. All these plastics can be recycled into different products, but of the three, LDPE results in the most greenhouse gas savings when it's recycled.

But please - do not put number 4 LDPE plastic into a recycling bin unless you are sure it is accepted. Otherwise, you could contaminate an entire batch of recycled plastic.

Shipping Information

WE SHIP EVERY DAY

UK Shipping

We offer FREE SHIPPING on all orders over £50. This will usually be Royal Mail 2nd class.   We make every effort to ship your order within 24 hours.

UK Shipping - we use Royal Mail for shipping and unfortunately in recent months the costs have increased significantly.

International Shipping

We offer a £10 flat rate on all International shipping on orders over £100.

We now use Delivered Duties Paid (DDP) shipping services, so you won’t face surprise fees after checkout. Your order will just be delivered. Customs duties (typically ~16%) are shown upfront as a separate line, ensuring full transparency. This change follows the removal of the US “de minimis” exemption for UK shipments, meaning even low-value orders may incur tariffs PLUS the additional tarriff of 10% TRUMP duty.  These are government-imposed, not our charges. With DDP, your order arrives smoothly—no additional costs, no extra hassle.

Standard/Tracked Service: Orders will be sent via the postal system using a tracked service. Customers will receive an email confirming their order has been shipped, which will include a link to track the order. Shipping time is 5-7 working days in USA/CA.

We always try to keep our costs to a minimum.  We usually use Royal Mail Tracked, which does not include Signed.  We are given a proof of postage which includes your address details and the weight of your parcel, but you do not sign for your parcel which is the preferred way since Covid.  This service is cost effective and very reliable.  However, we cannot accept responsibility for your goods once they have left the UK with this service.

If you would prefer your order to be sent International Tracked & Signed then please message me with your order.    Using this service your order will be fully tracked with signature on delivery and the added cost for this service is low.

Shipping times

To reduce our carbon footprint we like to support our local mobile shipping service which sets up in our village and is within easy walking distance for us.
