Hand Dyed Bluefaced Leicester fleece - Ultra-Marine

£2.00
Regular price £2.00

We keep a small flock of Bluefaced Leicesters at Home Farm.  Very elegant sheep with an amazing fleece, just not much of it!

We prefer to shear early for a good Bluefaced Leicester fleece and because of this we cannot guarantee the length of the lock.  We hope to average 10 – 16cm (4-6 inches) and a gorgeous lustrous tiny crimp.  The locks are not pulled – if you are looking for individual locks then a Wensleydale lamb might be a preferable choice, but if you are looking for the tiny crimp then BFL is for you.

This is a natural product and hand dyed.  Every fleece is individual and every pot of dye is made to order.  We dye in small batches and try our very best to keep a continuity of colour.  Some factors affecting this continuity are the differences in each fleece and also the time of the year that the wool is dyed.

We like to keep a huge range of colours, vibrant and/or soft colour choices.  These locks are perfect for a range of projects … so versatile.

Before washing and dyeing, these lustrous locks are selected and hand sorted and graded by me personally and only the strongest and best of the fibre is used.

Each year the lock length is different, because, of course, every sheep is individual and therefore every fleece is unique.  The weather plays a huge part and it can often tell us when to shear – and since we are a flock for wool and not meat, we always do what mother nature tells us!  We hope to average 10 – 16cm (4-6 inches) and a gorgeous lustrous tiny crimp from the Bluefaced Leicesters.

This listing is for hand dyed Bluefaced Leicester fleece and your locks will be from a Bluefaced Leicester ewe or wether who is between 6 months and 36 months old when skilfully sheared.  Silky, cute tiny crimp, lustrous and very soft.

When ordering please keep in mind that the actual colours might differ from what you see, due to the settings of my camera and your monitor!

We are a working farm, we keep rare breed Wensleydales black and white, for wool exclusively.  We also keep smaller flocks of Bluefaced Leicesters, Lincoln Longwools and Herdwicks!

Our sheep are in prime condition, with their day to day nutrition and behaviour closely monitored to avoid any wool-breaks. As you can imagine, opting for professional shearers, weighing the sheep monthly and feeding every lamb twice daily for the first year, is an expensive task.

But put simply - happy sheep give the best fleeces and therefore the best yarn and craft supplies and cutting corners gives average ones! These values are behind everything we do at Home Farm.

And finally, my website may not give you the best postage option for larger quantities.  I will always refund any postage difference or send you a pro-forma invoice in advance.

Packaging

Wherever possible we will use paper packaging

However, Europe, US, Canada and Rest of World, it is not always possible to use paper due to the soft contents of the package.  If this is the case, we use 90 micron polythene mailbags.  Recycling guide: LDPE 4 (Low density polyethylene).

Low-density polyethylene, or LDPE, is number 4-coded plastic, commonly used to manufacture shopping bags, dry cleaning bags and flexible bottles and lids.  Although not as commonly recycled as number 1 polyethylene terephthalate or number 2 high-density polyethylene, LDPE recycling is gaining traction as its post-consumer uses increase. One use is combining recycled LDPE with wood to create composite lumber suitable for light applications. All these plastics can be recycled into different products, but of the three, LDPE results in the most greenhouse gas savings when it's recycled.

But please - do not put number 4 LDPE plastic into a recycling bin unless you are sure it is accepted. Otherwise, you could contaminate an entire batch of recycled plastic.
